Family Education For Christ welcomes you to

The L.O.F.T.

(L.O.F.T. = Living Our Faith Together)

The purpose of The L.O.F.T. is to create social opportunities for FEFC high school group members. Our goal is to be purposeful and intentional in our social interactions while having fun, building a group that glorifies the Lord in fellowship, service, and FUN!  The L.O.F.T. students are in 9th – 12th grades on a high school academic level.

Last year, The L.O.F.T. included over 160 students, larger than some of our area’s private schools. With that in mind, FEFC has had to adopt some practices to successfully accomplish our goals and ensure a safe, well-organized event that students will enjoy. Please read this carefully and be mindful that the decisions have been made in the best interest of the whole group. These guidelines were developed years ago, and they help to ensure that the integrity of our group is suitable for every member's participation. Please follow them and understand that your Student Council, and your Coordinators must answer to Board Members within FEFC. Participation in The L.O.F.T. is a privilege. Consequences, to be determined by FEFC leaders, will follow if the guidelines are not followed.

We look forward to welcoming you and your student to an exciting and fun year with The L.O.F.T.!

2021 - 2022 The L.O.F.T. HIGH SCHOOL GROUP GUIDELINES

STUDENTS, PLEASE READ EACH GUIDELINE WITH YOUR PARENTS AND INITIAL TO INDICATE YOUR ACCEPTANCE:

1. *
  • Glorify God in your behavior at all times.
  • Willingly participate in group prayer at events.
2. *
  • Refrain from cursing, vulgar language / gestures, and taking the Lord’s name in vain.
  • Be respectful:
    • To Coordinators, Volunteers, and Peers.
    • That said, you may not understand or appreciate the decisions that are made, but you should know that decisions are considered for the well-being of the entire group.
3. *
  • Seek to actively welcome, be kind, and include everyone in our group. We do not tolerate cliques, drama, gossip, etc. because such actions are not glorifying to God. We want this to be a fun, safe place for all of our students.
  • Focus behavior with others on friendship. This is not a dating service. PDAs are not tolerated.
  • Bullying or inappropriate behavior is not tolerated on any level.
4. *
  • Dress modestly. Nobody needs to see all that.
  • For ladies, please ensure shorts are past your fingertips when arms are held straight at the sides, tank tops should have ~2" strap, undergarments should not show, swimsuits should be a modest one-piece or a tankini that covers the belly. Slits should cover appropriately.
  • For men, please ensure that tank tops are cut so as not to gap open, shorts are past your fingertips when arms are held straight at the sides, undergarments should not show, swimsuits should fit and not droop or be excessively tight. No speedos, please.
  • If an event calls for a dress code, please dress appropriately.
  • Extra-large and loud t-shirts will be provided for students who abuse this policy.
  • A repeated offense will send you home for the foreseeable future.
5. *
  • Siblings are not to be included or invited to any High School Group event unless you are the host home, and then it depends on the activities at the event. This includes our Spring Formal. Any children brought to the event will incur the regular ticket fee.
6. *
  • Request permission from the Coordinators to leave any group event. Do not leave the activity area without permission. Ask permission; not forgiveness. We are not babysitters; however, we do want to ensure that you are safe.
  • We will be requiring ALL students to sign into and out of events. Once signed out, students may not return to an event unless pre-arranged with the coordinators.
  • Abide by the rules of the Buddy System – never go anywhere alone, but in groups of three or more
7. *
  • Attendance breeds unity and commitment to our group.
  • Students are required to attend at least three FEFC L.O.F.T. events during the year to receive an invitation to attend Spring Formal. Students will have from September 1 to January 31 to attend three L.O.F.T. events.
  • Students who attend three or more events will have the option to bring a guest (with parental permission).
  • Students who do not attend three or more events may not bring a guest and must themselves attend as a guest unless a parent attends with them.
  • Spring Formal guidelines and dress code will be posted closer to the event. There will be a separate Guest Registration that is required for liability purposes.
8. *
  • Communication for this group is by SignUp Genius and Facebook, with occasional updates to the FEFC Forum and/or Instagram.  Activity on Facebook is not a requirement, but it is a convenient way for us to stay in touch. You will receive much more timely, relevant information by being in the Facebook group.
  • Our Facebook group is only accessible by other members of the group, approved by the Coordinator. Please do not attempt to add friends who are not members of FEFC and registered with our group specifically.
  • You may wish to follow our group on Instagram at fefc_theloft. This group does not necessarily announce all events however.
  • We expect all students to use discernment in personal posts including status entries and photographs.
9. *
  • Once your family is registered with FEFC and has paid the annual registration fee, and The L.O.F.T. digital forms have been received, your name will be added to the communication roster. You will be sent a Facebook friend request from Stacy Martinez, then added to The LOFT group page.

  • We take the guidelines seriously. If the guidelines are not honored, your name will be removed from the group roster, and you will no longer be invited to attend group events.

Like Timothy, let’s take the Apostle Paul’s challenge to live according to a heavenly standard – a standard that brings honor to God!

PARENTS, PLEASE INITIAL THAT YOU HAVE READ AND ACCEPTED OUR PARENT GUIDELINES:

  • Parent Volunteers – It is a blessing to have parents to volunteer for the fun. Parents are encouraged and expected to volunteer throughout the year. We are cognizant that we are all busy with full hands and hearts. That's why it is a particular blessing for parents to use their God-given talents and 'services' for the benefit of all when you volunteer. When organizing an event, we follow a simple three step process:

    1.      Determine the host home.

    2.      Request & determine parent chaperones/volunteers. Parent participation is of utmost importance!

    3.     Open registration to students.

If you know of an activity that you would like to host that is not on the calendar, please feel free to contact us. We welcome all ideas for events to draw the students in and unify the group.

  • Parents, please initial to indicate acceptance of this guideline.

34. *
  • Parent Volunteer Requirement:  We ask that at least one parent from each family chaperone at a LOFT event. Event dates will be announced at a later time. When this is fulfilled, the volunteering parent qualifies for two perks:
    • Ability to purchase a reduced-cost "Early Bird Ticket" for the Spring Formal for you and your student; and
    • Ability to attend the Spring Formal as a chaperone. These seats always go quickly!
35. *
  • Event Fees / Reimbursements – Working with our Coordinator, our hosts decide how their event will unfold. Sometimes that includes the host providing everything and being reimbursed, but oftentimes, the host spreads the purchases and tasks among her volunteers/chaperones.
  • While many of our events each year are free, often we must charge to attend. This ‘event fee’ covers food, décor, and other needs. It is our policy that every attendee pays the event fee, including students, siblings (when allowed), and volunteering parents.
  • If you are providing anything for any event, please keep your receipts. Place them in an envelope and bring them to the event with you. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.  We will reimburse expenses when accompanied by a receipt, and if there are leftover funds, we will sometimes be able to reimburse the PARENTS event fee, in part or in whole.
  • Trust us, over the past years, we have tried every conceivable way of making this fair for everyone, and so far this seems to be the best way.
  • Leftover food is taken home with the Coordinators, when appropriate, frozen, and is used at future events to offset costs and keeping fees low.
  • Parents, please initial to indicate acceptance of this guideline.
36. *
  • Student Council – This group is composed of approximately 20 leaders among our student body. We have 3-4 meetings throughout the year to address issues and make decisions for the group. The students organize into ‘small groups’. We would love for your student to get involved!
  • We determine the Student Council annually each spring.
  • Student Council members who actively participate and meet their goals for the year will earn .5 Carnegie Units toward their high school transcript.
  • Parents, please initial to indicate acceptance of this guideline.
37. *
  • Siblings – For most events, we simply cannot accommodate siblings unless you are the host home. We would be overrun with children if everyone brought siblings to events – one disregard of this rule is oftentimes enough to open the floodgates for others. Please be gracious and respect our students’ request to not bring siblings unless an event clearly invites them. This especially includes our Spring Formal -- the highlight of our year and a special time for high school students and parents. Younger children will be in the high school group soon enough. Thank you for understanding.
  • Parents, please initial to indicate acceptance of this guideline.
38. *
  • Communication – We schedule several months in advance. Information can be found in any of three areas: Facebook group, FEFC Forum, and FEFCOnline.com/highschoolgroup page. Please check these frequently and let us know where you would like to volunteer. The timeliest information can be found on Facebook.
  • Parents, please initial to indicate acceptance of this guideline.
39. *
  • Event Registration – With so many students, it can be challenging to get everyone registered and paid for events. We use an online program called SignUp Genius. When events are planned, we send notice through SUG, which allows parents and students to register. Payment and event details are contained therein. Please ensure that the invitation emails do not go to your junk folder.
  • Get Involved -- Parents, we have found that students who get involved have a much better time. If your student does not wish to attend group events, please re-think registering and taking one of our membership slots.
  • Parents, please initial to indicate your acceptance of this guideline.
